The Fiat 616 was a light truck that Fiat presented in 1965 as the successor to the Fiat 615 . It was originally just a facelift version of this model, but it was redesigned from 1968 onwards. In France the Fiat 616 was marketed as Unic 616, in Spain as Fiat 673N and in Austria as Steyr-Fiat 616. The model was available as a flatbed truck with a single or double cab and a chassis for superstructures. It was powered by a 2.2-liter gasoline engine with 48 kW (65 hp) or the three-cylinder Fiat 803A diesel engine with 2339 cm³ and 37 kW (51 hp), each with a five-speed manual transmission. Due to different regulations and buyers' preferences, the model was available in different countries with different gross weights and payloads.
In 1968 the 616 N2 appeared in a new design with a less rounded cabin and a reinforced chassis. In addition, a four-cylinder Fiat 804 diesel engine with 3119 cm³ and 51 kW (70 hp) output was now available. From 1971 the 616 N3 was produced, which now had a three-cylinder diesel engine with 2592 cm³ and 46 kW (62 hp) or a 4-cylinder diesel engine with 3455 cm³ and 60 kW (82 hp). This model was also the first Fiat that was no longer marked with an emblem, but with silver-colored Fiat lettering on a black background. In Italy the model was now also offered as the OM 616. In 1978 production was stopped and the Fiat Daily replaced the model.
