The Fiat 10 HP was the fifth model from the Italian car manufacturer Fiat . Together with the Fiat 8 HP , it replaced the Fiat 6 HP , which was a further development of this model. The Fiat 6 HP was based on the Fiat 3.5 HP designed by the engineer Aristide Faccioli for Fiat. After the 6 HP, the 10 HP was designed by Faccioli. The technology remained the same, but the basic design orientation changed.
While the 6 HP was still delivered in the face-to-face body variant , the 10 HP was now a Phaeton with rows of seats arranged one behind the other. In contrast to the 8 HP, which was specially developed for commercial use as a taxi , as hardly any automobiles were currently being purchased by private buyers.
As with the 6 HP, the model had a 2-cylinder gasoline engine with 1082 cm³ with two valves per cylinder. This enabled a maximum output of 10 hp. The drive was via a 3-speed manual gearbox with chains on the rear wheels and enabled a maximum speed of 45 km / h. While a steering wheel was only available as an option on the 6 HP instead of a handlebar, it was part of the standard equipment on the 10 HP. The price of the 10 HP in standard equipment was 9,000 Italian lira . Presumably due to the increased consumption due to the higher weight, the model was not a success for Fiat. Instead of 20 for the 6 HP, only 3 or 5 copies were built, depending on the source. In 1901, the Fiat 12 HP was introduced as a successor model, also for the much more successful 8 HP .
