The Fiat 1200 Trasformabile , built from 1957 (export: 1200 Spyder ) a two-door convertible , was the successor to the Fiat 1100-103 TV Trasformabile . It had a four-cylinder in-line engine with 1221 cm³ and 55 HP / 40 kW and a four-speed gearbox, like the Fiat 1200 Granluce sedan . Its top speed was 140 km / h. Striking external distinguishing feature to the predecessor were u. a. the bumper horns moved into the middle of the car and the bumper pulled around to the rear wheel arches. In the interior, besides other seat covers, the "contemporary" tape speedometer and a Fiat sports steering wheel instead of the previously used Nardi wooden steering wheel stood out. A feature that the ladies in skirts got in and out of the car were the outward-swiveling seats.

In 1959 the Fiat body was replaced by a design by Pininfarina and was now called Fiat 1200 Spider (with i) or Fiat 1200 Cabriolet. The new body was much more elegant and looked more elongated. This new model still had the chassis and drive of the Fiat 1200 with an engine output of 55 HP DIN (63 SAE) / 40 kW. The top speed increased to 145 km / h. - On the basis of the new Pininfarina convertible, the type Fiat 1500 S with 75 HP (from 1962: 1600 S with 90 HP) with the 2ohc engine from OSCA , which belonged to the Maserati brothers , was also created.

In 1963 the convertible was completely redesigned and, in addition to a new bow, also got disc brakes and the drive train of the Fiat 1500. This successor was therefore called the Fiat 1500 Spider .
