The Fiat 8 HP was the third model from the Italian car manufacturer Fiat . Together with the Fiat 10 HP , it replaced the Fiat 6 HP , which was a further development of this model. The Fiat 6 HP was based on the Fiat 3.5 HP which the engineer Aristide Faccioli had designed for Fiat. After the 6 HP, the 8 HP was designed by Faccioli. The technology and the dimensions remained the same, but the basic design orientation changed.

While the 6 HP was still delivered in the face-to-face body variant , the 8 HP was now a Phaeton with seat arrangements arranged one behind the other. However, the model was designed for commercial use as a taxi , as few automobiles were currently being purchased by private buyers. The rear row of seats therefore consisted of two individual seats in the rear, based on the model of a horse-drawn carriage. For the driver's area there was an optional hood and later an optional foldable windshield. As with the 6 HP, the model had a 2-cylinder gasoline engine with 1082 cm³ with two valves per cylinder. This enabled a maximum output of 10 hp. The drive was via a 3-speed manual gearbox on the rear wheels and allowed a maximum speed of 45 km / h. While a steering wheel was only available as an option on the 6 HP instead of a handlebar, it was part of the standard equipment on the 8 HP.

The realignment of the 8 HP was much more successful, 80 units were built instead of 20. The Fiat 12 HP was introduced in 1901 as a successor to the 8 HP and the not so successful 10 HP .
