The Fiat Brava is a by the Italian manufacturer Fiat from autumn 1995 to summer 2001 manufactured cars , which the compact class belonged. The Brava was the longer five-door variant, while the 17 cm shorter three-door model was sold under the name Fiat Bravo . The notchback sedan and station wagon were offered as Fiat Marea from summer 1996 . The latter model received larger bumpers and a wider track to distinguish it.

Model history

The Fiat Brava was voted Car of the Year 1996 together with the Bravo . The predecessor of both vehicles was the Fiat Tipo .

The Tipo was initially selling very well on the European market, but after the first catastrophic crash tests, the buyers were almost completely absent. The dramatic slump in sales of this model brought the already ailing Fiat group into additional difficulties. Fiat realized too late that the security aspects of the Tipo could not be improved to such an extent that it could offer competitive security. For this reason, the Bravo and Brava models were launched, which were the most rapidly developed vehicles in the Fiat group until then.

In a good two years, the cars were developed from the first drafts to the start of production. The first goal was a modern safety equipment so that the debacle of Tipos would not repeat itself. In a Euro NCAP crash test in cooperation with the ADAC and the ÖAMTC , the Brava only received two out of four possible stars. The passenger cell would still be too weak, but a third star would have been possible with small improvements.

The Brava (and thus also the Bravo) was not a great success, even advertising campaigns with Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello and a model upgrade carried out in autumn 1998 including modernized engines could not change anything.

After just six years, Brava and Bravo were replaced by the Fiat Stilo in October 2001 . In Egypt, however, the first generation Brava remained in production.

In spring 2007 the Stilo was replaced by a new Bravo generation. This is only available as a five-door model - that is, in the model variant that was previously called Brava. A resurgence of the name Brava has therefore become rather unlikely.

The naturally aspirated diesel was replaced very early on by the first generation of turbodiesel engines. At the end of 1998, a newly developed common rail diesel engine finally found its way into the compact car. At the same time, the 1.4 12V motor, described as inelastic and thirsty, was taken out of the range and replaced by a new 1.2 16V motor. These engine changes were carried out as part of a small facelift, in which smaller optical details and the equipment variants were revised. From then on, side airbags were also part of the standard equipment.

The Brava was available in the equipment variants:
