The Fiat 615 light truck was produced by Fiat from 1951 as the successor to the Fiat 1100ELR , which was built in parallel until 1953 . With a total weight of 3100 kg, it was available as a flatbed truck or a chassis for superstructures and as a tractor unit; the cabin was modeled on that of the larger Fiat 640 . At first it had the new petrol engine with 1395 cm³ and 29 kW (39 hp) at 3800 rpm from the Fiat 1400 with 4-speed manual transmission.

In 1952 the 615N was offered with the Fiat 305 diesel engine with 1901 cm³ and 29 kW (40 hp) at 3200 rpm and a payload of 1.65 tons. The "N" comes from the Italian name Nafta for diesel. At the time, the Fiat 615N was a modern car without many competitors and also captured a large share of the export market. From 1953 there was a panel van and a bus with 11 seats based on the 615N. In 1956 the output of the diesel engine increased to 32 kW (43 hp).

However, a lack of further development caused the model series to decline in sales and so the second series, the Fiat 615N1, was introduced in 1960. The cabin was given a higher radiator grille and was shaped almost square. The chrome strips disappeared and the total weight increased to 3.5 tons. The power of the diesel engine increased to 37 kW (50 hp). In France the model has now been marketed as the Unic 615N1.

The model was built until 1965 and then appeared as the Fiat 616. It still had the cabin of the 615N1, but now a three-cylinder diesel engine with 2.7 liter displacement and 37 kW (51 hp), but higher torque. The payload was now 1.65 tons to 1.8 tons. In 1966 the model became the 616N1 and had a 5-speed manual transmission. In 1968 a completely redesigned Fiat 616 took over.

Steyr 260 1953-1968

From 1953 the Fiat 615 was built under license as the Steyr 260 by Steyr Daimler Puch in Austria . It was available with the 2.0-liter petrol engine from the Steyr 2000 with 37 kW (50 hp) or the Fiat diesel engine. In 1959 the Steyr 260 was produced exclusively by Fiat and only differed from the respective Fiat 615/616 model by the brand emblems. The Fiat 616 became the successor model as the Steyr-Fiat 616, supplemented by the Steyr-Fiat OM 40 series, which later became the OM X series .

Zastava 615B + 620B 1956–1975 / Zastava 615/616 1960–1985

Zastava , almost always associated with Fiat since it was founded in 1953, built the Fiat 615 under license between 1956 and 1985. However, the model had the significantly more powerful 1.9-liter petrol engine (type 105) with 35 kW (47 hp) at 3500 / min, as it was also installed in the Fiat Campagnola, also built under license from Zastava . From 1960 there was the Zastava 620B with a payload of 2 tons and a 30 cm longer platform. The diesel engine of the Fiat 615 was also available and was offered as the Zastava 615. In 1975 there was a Perkins Engines 1600 cc diesel engine with 40 kW (54 hp) and a 2400 cc diesel engine with 50 kW (68 hp). This model was called the Zastava 616. In 1978 production of the 615B / 620B ended after more than 36,000 copies for the local market and exports to some countries in Eastern Europe. At the same time, the Zastava 616 received a revision and was built until 1985. The successor was the Zastava / Iveco Daily .
