Successor to the Fiat 132
In April 1981 the Argenta appeared as a four-door notchback sedan . It was the top model of the Fiat brand. The Argenta replaced the technically and formally closely related Fiat 132 .
The body shell and the outer sheet metal parts were taken over by the Argenta unchanged from the 132nd The designers tried to achieve a contemporary look for the largest Fiat car with wide plastic bumpers, plastic side bumper strips and modified lights.
Fiat initially offered four engines:
- The Argenta 1600 had a four-cylinder carburettor engine with 1585 cm³ displacement and 72 kW (98 PS). Its top speed was 160 to 165 km / h.
- The Argenta 2000 had a similar engine with 1995 cc and 83 kW (113 hp). It reached a top speed of 165 to 170 km / h.
- With intake manifold injection instead of carburettor , the model was called Argenta 2000 ie and developed 90 kW (122 hp) with the same displacement. The maximum speed was 170 to 175 km / h.
- The Argenta 2500 Diesel had a four-cylinder engine with 2445 cm³ displacement and 53 kW (72 PS). Its top speed was 150 km / h.
All versions were equipped with a five-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive as standard. A three-speed automatic transmission could also be ordered as special equipment for the gasoline engines .
Facelift
In June 1984 the Argenta was slightly modified. He received u. a. the new Fiat logo and the model names have been changed from the rounded cubic capacity to engine power in hp.
The Argenta 1600 became the Argenta 100 , and the Argenta 2000 became the Argenta 110 . The Argenta 2000 i. e. was called Argenta 120 . The diesel was replaced by the Argenta TD turbodiesel with 66 kW (90 hp) output. There was also the new top model, the Argenta VX with a four-cylinder in-line engine and compressor. This 2.0-liter gasoline engine developed 99 kW (135 hp).
In January 1986 Fiat stopped production of the Argenta. Its successor, Croma , came onto the market in autumn 1985.
