The Fiat 6-8 HP , also called just 6 HP , was the second model of the Italian car manufacturer Fiat and a further development of the first Fiat, the Fiat 3.5 HP .
The mechanical components were mostly taken over unchanged, but the chassis of the 6-8 HP was larger and wider than that of the 3.5 HP. Engineer Aristide Faccioli designed this model as well. The body was again supplied by an external bodybuilder, but the model was now assembled in Fiat's first own factory, Corso Dante.
The water-cooled two-cylinder - rear engine of the 6-8 HP3,5 HP now had 1082 cc instead of 679 cc of 3.5 HP and made 7.5 kW (10.1 hp) at 800 / min. This increased the top speed to 45 km / h. The previous model had three forward gears, now you could also use them to drive backwards. The car could now also be supplied with a steering wheel instead of a handlebar.
A total of 20 copies were made.
6 HP Corsa
Fiat also built a racing version of the 6 HP, the 6 HP Corsa. In this case, the gearbox was modified to increase transmission efficiency and save weight. Three of them were built, winning the Turin-Asti race in April 1900 and the Paris-Vicenza-Bassano-Treviso-Padua race in July of the same year, with an increased average speed of 59.60 km / h. The 60 HP Corsa was driven by Vincenzo Lancia , who later built automobiles himself and was then employed by Fiat, and the racing driver Felice Nazzaro , who later worked for Fiat for a long time .
