The Fiat S 76 (later Fiat 300 HP Rekord ) was a world record vehicle from the Italian car manufacturer Fiat , which was also known as "the beast of Turin ". With it the speed record of the Blitzen-Benz should be broken. Year of construction was 1911. Only two copies were made.

Record attempts

In 1911 Pietro Bordino drove almost 200 km / h on the Brooklands circuit . In the following year, 1912, the Frenchman Arthur Duray reached a top speed of 225 km / h in Ostend, Belgium .

Technical specifications

The four-cylinder type S 76 engine installed in the front had cylinders cast together in pairs, 190 mm bore , 250 mm stroke , 28,353 cm³ displacement , three spark plugs per cylinder, four valves per cylinder and an overhead camshaft (OHC). It had a low voltage magneto ignition and water cooling . The output was 290 hp (213 kW) at 1900 revolutions per minute. The power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a four-speed gearbox with reverse gear and chains. The chassis had rigid axles at the front and rear , semi-elliptical leaf springs at the front, leaf springs and trailing arms at the rear . The foot brake acted on the power transmission, the hand brake on the rear wheels. The steering worked with a worm and worm gear sector.

With a wheelbase of 275 cm and a track width of 130 cm, the vehicle was 375 cm long. The curb weight was 1650 kg.
