Duray first appeared at the wheel of a racing car in 1902 , and in 1903 he improved the world speed record for automobiles to 136.4 km / h. In 1904 he drove for Darracq and from 1905 to 1908 for Lorraine-Dietrich . He won the Ardennes race in 1906 with his vehicle and only one defect prevented him from winning the 1907 French Grand Prix . In the following years he tried different brands, including Delage , where he finished 5th in the 1913 French Grand Prix and 8th in the 1914 French Grand Prix . Duray also competed in the Indianapolis 500 mile race , where he finished second in a Peugeot in 1914 .

After the First World War , he primarily competed in touring car races, races in the Voiturette class and sports car races , including several times (1926 to 1928) at the Le Mans 24-hour race . His Ariès sports car, which is prone to defects , was no longer a great success .

Duray announced his retirement from motorsport in 1928 and died in 1954.
