SA Ariès was a French manufacturer of automobiles and commercial vehicles.
Company history
The SA Ariès from Courbevoie was founded in 1903 by Baron Charles Petiet. In the same year the production of automobiles and trucks began . In 1904 the company employed 95 people. In 1914 the manufacture of aircraft engines was added under license from Hispano-Suiza . Automobile production ended in 1938.
Automobiles
The first models had four-cylinder built -in engines , initially from Aster and later mainly from De Dion-Bouton . A six-cylinder model followed in 1908 . After the First World War , only four-cylinder models were produced. The last new model was the 10 CV Super from 1934. In the 1930s, Ariès obtained most of its bodies from Antem .
A vehicle of this brand can be seen in the Manoir de l'Automobile in Lohéac .
Sports successes
- From 1924 to 1928 , Ariès used various models in the Le Mans 24-hour race . The greatest success here was the sixth place overall for Louis Wagner and Charles Flohot on an Ariès 3-liter in 1925 .
- In 1925 Robert Laly , also with a three-liter Ariès, came second in the Coupe Georges Boillot in Boulogne-sur-Mer , which was not part of the Grand Prix championship but was top-class . In 1927 he won the penultimate edition of this series also on Ariès, but in a smaller field.
