Company history
In 1903, Ernest Zürcher founded a branch of his Swiss company in Pontarlier, France , in order to bypass the high customs barriers. The brand name was Zedel . On November 11, 1907, Zürcher handed over management of the branch to the Swiss engineer Samuel Graf. In 1923 the company was handed over to Jérôme Donnet, which resulted in Donnet-Zedel .
vehicles
Automobiles
From May 1906, the first 8 CV model with a four-cylinder in - line engine with a displacement of 1128 cm³ was created . The 10/12 CV model followed in 1908 , and the 16/18 CV model in 1909 , both with four-cylinder engines. In 1912 the range consisted of three four-cylinder models, the largest of which was the 18 CV with a displacement of 3563 cc.
Between 1919 and 1923 two models with four-cylinder slide engines were created . The model C 16 11 CV had a displacement of 2120 cm³, the larger model P 15 CV had a displacement of 3,168 cm³.
Motors and motorcycles
In the beginning, built-in motors were created for other motorcycle manufacturers. Between 1905 and 1915, the French factory produced motorcycles with one- and two-cylinder engines .
brand names
The engines were marketed as Zürcher. The brand name for vehicles from Swiss production was ZL , for vehicles from French production Zedel . This is an artificial word and was formed from the initials of the two company founders Zürcher & Lüthi (Z & L). Since Zedel was written without an accent in French-language advertisements and on the stationery of the Zedel company , the other spellings found in the literature such as Zédel and Zédèl are incorrect.
