The Société des Automobiles Gamma was a French manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in 1914 before the start of the First World War . A prototype was created in the same year, but it did not go into production.

At least in the period from 1919 the headquarters were at 34 rue Saint-Ferdinand in Paris . The factory was located at 139 Boulevard Saint-Denis in Courbevoie . At the 15th Paris Motor Show , which took place from October 9th to 19th, 1919, Gamma did not yet exhibit. In 1920 the motor show was canceled. Automobile production began in 1920 or 1921. The brand name was Gamma . Gamma took part in the Paris Motor Show in October 1921 in the Grand Palais . The stand was between the Elysée and L. Vienne stands . Production ended in 1922. In total, only a few vehicles were built.

vehicles

The prototype from 1914 was also called Gamma-Hébé .

In 1920 there was only one model in the range. The 10/12 HP had been considerably modernized compared to the prototype. The four-cylinder engine with 65 mm bore and 120 mm stroke had the specified 1590 cm³ or arithmetically 1593 cm³ displacement . It came from Établissements Ballot . The chassis had a wheelbase of 255 cm³ . The only body style offered was a two-seat torpedo . The new price was 13,000 francs .

An advertisement from the company has survived for 1921, describing the vehicles as "the best light wagons, the most solid, the simplest, the most practical". It offers five models: 6/8 HP , 8/10 HP , 9/11 HP , 10/12 HP and 12/14 HP . Four-cylinder engines, three- and four-speed transmissions as well as two- and four-seat bodies are mentioned . This was far too large a range for a small business.

Only two different engines are named for 1922. The smaller engine with 1.5 liter displacement came from Ballot and the larger with 2 liter displacement from Alto .

Regardless of the years, a source cites a 1.5 liter Ballot engine with SV valve control and the 2 liter Alto engine. A pointed cooler is also mentioned. Another source gives 1590 cm³ displacement for the Ballot engine, gives 1994 cm³ displacement for the Alto engine and also SV valve control and also mentions the Spitz cooler. Another source names engines with 1131 cm³, 1593 cm³ and 2297 cm³ displacement.
