Automobiles Turcat-Méry SA was a French manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

1897 founded Léon Turcat and his brother Simon Mery in Marseille , the Société des Ateliers de Constructions d'Automobiles Turcat, Méry et Cie . De Dietrich was a licensee from 1902 . In 1921 it was renamed Automobiles Turcat-Méry SA . Louis Mouren took over the company in 1926. Production ended in 1928.

The first car was created in 1899. It was equipped with a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2600 cm³ . A two-cylinder model followed in 1901 . In 1907 the first six-cylinder model with a displacement of 10,200 cc appeared. Until the First World War , only large four-cylinder models were made. The engines had a choice of 2600, 3300, 4100, 4700 or 6300 cm³ displacement.

After 1918, smaller models were made. First a vehicle appeared in the pre-war design with a four-cylinder engine, 2977 cm³ displacement and side valves. In 1923, a more modern four-cylinder engine with 2848 cm³ displacement and OHC valve control added to the range. It was followed by a comparable engine with a displacement of 2388 cm³.

In 1926, Louis Mouren switched to using engines from other manufacturers. There were initially four-cylinder engines from CIME with a displacement of 1200 cm³ and SCAP with a displacement of 1614 cm³. 1927 six-cylinder engine of 1215 cc displacement with CIME and lateral valves and a supplemented rows - eight-cylinder engine of 2340 cc displacement with SCAP and OHV valve controlling the range.

Automobile sport

The vehicles achieved 9th place in the Paris – Madrid race in 1903 and 3rd place in the 1904 Gordon Bennett race with driver Henri Louis Rougier. Rougier also won the first Monte Carlo Rally with a 24 CV . In 1921, Rougier came second at Circuit de Corse, ahead of three other Turcat-Méry racing cars.

A vehicle of this brand can be seen in the Musée de l'Automobile de Valençay in Valençay .
