Company history

prehistory

A Tram Omnibus Car Ripert from 1881

The company was founded in the 1870s by coachbuilder Antoine Ripert . In the first few years, wagons for horse-drawn buses were built in Marseille , which were known as “Tram Omnibus Car Ripert” or “Car Ripert” for short in numerous French cities, but also found buyers in Spain, Belgium and Switzerland. They were like horse-drawn trams with platforms open at both ends, but they ran on wooden spoked wheels. Since they didn't need rails, they were interesting for places that shied away from the expense of a rail network. However, they were also used on less frequented routes in cities with horse-drawn trams running on the main lines.

Automobiles Ripert

The company began producing automobiles in 1899 and was called Automobiles Ripert . The brand name was Ripert . Production ended in 1902, and only a few copies were made.

vehicles

The company manufactured vehicles with two-cylinder engines. There was a choice of engines with 6  HP and 12 HP. In both models, the motor was mounted in the front of the chassis and powered the rear axle via belts. The transmission had four gears.

A vehicle of this brand was on display in 1996 in the Cité de l'Automobile - Musée National - Collection Schlumpf in Mulhouse .
