The Compagnie des Automobiles et Cycles Hurtu was a French manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Messrs. Hurtu, Hautin and E. Diligeon founded the company Hurtu, Hautin et Diligeon in Albert in 1880 to build sewing machines . Machine tools, grinders and bicycles followed , which were marketed as Hurtu . In 1895 E. Diligeon sold his shares and founded his own company Diligeon et Cie . The brand name Hurtu remained unchanged. Automobile production began in 1896 under a license from Automobiles Léon Bollée . In 1897 the first car was built in-house. Marshall & Co from Manchester was a licensee. In 1899 the company was renamed Compagnie des Autos et Cycles Hurtu . Other factories were located in Neuilly-sur-Seine and Rueil . Automobile production increased. In 1913, 600 vehicles were built. Production ended in 1930.

The first model was similar to the German Benz and had a single cylinder engine . From 1900 there was the more modern 3½ CV model with a single cylinder engine from De Dion-Bouton . In addition, models with single-cylinder, two-cylinder and four-cylinder engines from Aster were created from 1900 . In 1912 the range consisted of the single-cylinder model 8 CV and the four-cylinder model 10 CV . From 1922 a four-cylinder model with a displacement of 2000 cc was created .
