Georges Irat was the founder of Automobiles Georges Irat SA , a French manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Georges Irat had been running the Automobiles Irat company in Paris since 1914 , but did not manufacture any vehicles there. In 1921 he founded Automobiles Georges Irat in Chatou and began producing automobiles. The brand name was Georges Irat . During the 1920s, annual production was around 200 vehicles. The company was located in Neuilly-sur-Seine from 1929 and in Levallois-Perret from 1935 . Production ended in 1949. Georges Irat then ran the Société Chérifienne George Irat in Casablanca .

Models

The first model had its own four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2000 cc . In 1927 a six-cylinder model with a displacement of 3000 cc was added. From 1929 six-cylinder and were eight-cylinder engines from Lycoming used. In 1935 a front-wheel drive model was added, the 1100 cc engine was from Ruby . In 1939 another model appeared with the engine from the Citroën Traction Avant 11 CV , which had 1911 cc displacement. During the Second World War , some vehicles were equipped with electric motors.

In 1946 and 1949, prototype vehicles with a four-cylinder boxer engine with a displacement of 1100 cc and a light metal body appeared, although they no longer went into series production.

A vehicle of this brand was on view in the Motor Technica Museum Bad Oeynhausen in Bad Oeynhausen .

Sports successes

A team from Georges Irat competed in the opening race of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1923 . Maurice Cappé and Jean Douarinou achieved 16th place overall on a Georges Irat 4 / A3. Georges Irat vehicles were entered in this endurance race until 1926 .
