Auverland (currently the official name is Panhard General Defense ) was a French manufacturer of military vehicles and off-road vehicles .

Company history

The company was founded by François Sérvanin in Saint-Germain-Laval in the early 1980s . In 1984 Auverland took over the licensing of the off-road vehicle, which had been built by Cournil in Aurillac until then , and which had also been produced in Portugal since 1977 under the UMM brand , also under a Cournil license. The Cournil off-road vehicle was initially developed into the A2 and later the A3.

At the end of the 1980s, Auverland expanded its activities in the military sector and took over the French military vehicle manufacturer Sovamag , which was producing the TC10 off- road vehicle at the time . The brand name Sovamag was retained and the TC10s that were still being produced were provided with corresponding nameplates.

At the end of the 1990s Auverland got into economic difficulties after it had taken over with product variants for the civilian market. In 2001 the brand was restarted under the name Société Nouvelle des Automobiles Auverland (SNAA) . Now the focus was entirely on the military market and on public services such as the police , gendarmerie and fire brigade .

With the production of the Petit Véhicule Protégé (PVP) or A4 AVL for the French armed forces , Auverland became economically successful again and in January 2005 was able to take over the Panhard Armored Vehicle Department (SCMPL Panhard) from the PSA Group . With this acquisition, the Peugeot P4 came into the Auverland product portfolio. On September 30, 2005, the name Auverland was finally given up and the company was renamed Panhard General Defense . The new company logo was based on the Auverland tradition and took over the rising chamois from the old Auverland logo in a slightly different form.
