Hobbycar was a French car brand.

Company history

François Wardavoir founded Hobbycar SA in Garancières together with Serge Desmarais and Claude Poiraud in 1992 and began producing automobiles. The brand name was Hobbycar . In December 1994 financial difficulties arose. In March 1995, 72 of the 92 employees were laid off. SANAM took over production in May 1995 . By that time, 50 vehicles had been built. Production ended in 1996.

The first model was an amphibious vehicle . The open vehicle offered space for four people. In addition, a closed version and a pickup were planned. The chassis was made of stainless steel and the structure was made of plastic . First, a standing gasoline engine with 1,400 cc displacement and 74 hp and a diesel engine with 1800 cc and 80 hp of PSA Peugeot Citroen are available. Later a diesel engine with 1900 cc and 92 hp was added. The maximum speed was given as 140 km / h on the road and 5 knots on the water. The original price was 350,000 French francs .

In 1995 the Passport model was presented. This was a van with four sliding doors and five seats. For driving a saw four-cylinder engine of Opel with 2000 cc displacement turbocharger and 204 hp. The engine was mounted in the front of the vehicle and powered all four wheels. The vehicle did not go into series production. Two sources state that the high development costs for this model were responsible for the company's demise.
