Panhard
Panhard is the brand name of the French car manufacturer Panhard & Levassor for small cars and armored vehicles after the Second World War. Panhard & Levassor started as the first company in the world to manufacture and sell mass-produced vehicles in 1891. The construction of civil automobiles ceased in 1967 after the merger with Citroën .
The production of armored vehicles that began between the two world wars is still there today. This division was taken over by Auverland in 2005 and Renault Trucks Défense in 2012 .
The Panhard rod - a wishbone used on rigid axles - was invented by this automaker.
Brand history
After 1945, Panhard had completely turned away from luxury vehicles with slide motors. Instead, the company developed a completely new concept with engineer Jean-Albert Grégoire . In addition to trucks , small but technically interesting automobiles were manufactured, including the first mass-produced car body made of aluminum . Striking was the air-cooled four-stroke - boxer engine , the engine power up to 60 hp for a twin-cylinder -PKW was exceptionally large.
A milestone in the history of Panhard was their appearance in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans . Panhard did not bet on the overall victory, but pursued the win of the special award for vehicles that could drive as many laps as possible with the lowest consumption. Panhard won this award ten times between 1950 and 1964.
After the French company Citroën took over 25% of Panhard in 1955, the two companies later merged. The last civil Panhard automobile was built in 1967. The production of armored vehicles , which began before the war, has continued to this day, for example with the Véhicule Blindé Léger . Armored vehicles were built from 1986 until Panhard was sold to Auverland in 2004.
From 1950 to 1953 the German company Dyna Automobil-Import und -Export manufactured the Dyna-Veritas in small numbers on the basis of a Panhard vehicle.
Post-war car models
The Panhard Dyna X was the first post-war model in 1945 with which the Panhard brand was introduced and which was in the production program until 1954.
