The Panhard CRAB ( C ombat R econnaissance A rmored B uggy ) is an armored wheeled vehicle for battlefield reconnaissance . A first prototype was presented without a government contract in 2012 at the Eurosatory military fair .
development
The CRAB was developed by Panhard as a light reconnaissance vehicle to replace the Panhard VBL produced by the French army from 1985 to 2010 . The vehicle was also intended for export during development. A first draft was presented in 2010; the first prototype was roadworthy in 2014. Panhard announced that the first Margin of the vehicle would be delivered to the French Army in 2018.
drive
The CRAB is equipped with an M16 six-cylinder diesel engine from Steyr which, with its 3.2 l displacement, produces an output of 320 hp. As a result, the relatively light vehicle with a maximum mass of ten tons can reach high speeds of up to 110 km / h. The turning semicircle is ten meters.
Possible armament
The CRAB is equipped with a remote-controlled turret that can hold various types of weapons. It can be equipped with 7.62 mm machine guns up to 30 mm machine cannons as well as anti- tank or anti-aircraft missiles . At Eurosatory 2012, the vehicle was exhibited with a turret for the 25 mm automatic cannons, which was developed by the Belgian CMI group . The relatively compact and relatively light CRAB can be transported by air : according to the manufacturer, three vehicles should be able to be transported in an Airbus A400M .
