La Buire was a French manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Société de l'Horme et de la Buire was founded in Lyon in 1847 and initially manufactured chassis for railroad cars. In 1900 he started building automobiles together with Léon Serpollet . The brand name was La Buire . The company was renamed several times: in 1904 as Chantiers de la Buire , in 1905 as Société des Automobiles de la Buire and in 1910 as Société Nouvelle de la Buire Automobiles . At the beginning of 1910, when Michel Berthier was technical director, the brand name Berthier was used for a short time . Production ended in 1930.

Brand name La Buire

In 1904 the first four-cylinder models 16 CV and 30 CV were produced and offered under their own name. In 1906 further four-cylinder models followed, the engines of which had a displacement of 4900 cm³, 7500 cm³ and 13,600 cm³ . The vehicles also took part in races. In 1907 there was a four-cylinder model with a displacement of 2700 cc, in 1908 the 10/14 CV model with a displacement of 2100 cc and a six-cylinder model with a displacement of 4800 cc. In 1909 four new six-cylinder models appeared with displacements between 3600 cm³ and 9500 cm³. In 1910 the four-cylinder models 15 CV with 3217 cm³ displacement and 20 CV with 4071 cm³ displacement appeared. In 1913 the range consisted of new four-cylinder models with 1700 cm³ and 2300 cm³ displacement, the well-known 15 CV and 20 CV and the six-cylinder models with 4800 cm³ and 5300 cm³ displacement.

In 1919 the 14/20 CV model appeared with a displacement of 2650 cm³. In 1923 the prototype 14/16 CV with front-wheel drive was presented, but it did not go into series production. In 1923 the four-cylinder model 12/38 CV appeared with a displacement of 1800 cm³, which was shortly followed by another four-cylinder model with a displacement of 2000 cm³. These models were offered until 1930.

A vehicle of this brand can be seen in the Musée Henri Malartre in Rochetaillée-sur-Saône .

Brand name Berthier

In 1910 the company offered four models as Berthier . These were the four-cylinder models 10 CV , 15 CV and 24 CV and the six-cylinder model 18 CV .

Licensing

Meyrel from Colmar manufactured vehicles under a license from La Buire. Ilyin from Moscow was initially an importer and from 1912 a licensee.
