Gautier-Wehrlé was a French manufacturer of automobiles and commercial vehicles .

Company history

Messrs Rossel (possibly Édouard Rossel, who later founded Rossel ), Charles Gautier and Wehrlé founded the company Rossel, Gautier et Wehrlé for the production of automobiles in Paris in 1894 . The brand name was Gautier-Wehrlé . In 1897 it was renamed Société Centrale . Production ended in 1900. Charles Gautier later founded Gautier et Cie .

vehicles

At first steam cars were produced, which also took part in the car races in 1894 Paris-Rouen and 1895 Paris-Bordeaux-Paris . Steam car production ended in 1897.

The very innovative 8 CV model followed in 1896 with a centrally mounted petrol engine , three-speed gearbox, cardan drive and an articulated rear axle. The manufacture of a delivery van is also mentioned for the first time this year; it was a version with a two-cylinder boxer engine . In 1897 the engine was switched to front-end .

In 1898 the offer consisted of several single-cylinder models from the 5 CV Mignonette to the 12 CV and a model with a two-cylinder engine , which was probably also the basis of a light bus .

Electric cars were also created in 1898 .

Licensing

Linon from Belgium manufactured some models under license .

Trivia

In the early 1960s, the small toy car manufacturer RAMI by JMK produced a replica of a Mignonette 5/6 CV from 1897. The original vehicle has a fixed roof with an integrated, innovative system of two windshields, which were lowered from above after boarding the two-seater. The same model also served as a template for a plastic finished model, but without windows.
