Audibert-Lavirotte was a French manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Maurice Audibert and Emile Lavirotte manufactured automobiles to customer orders from 1894. In 1896 they founded the Société des Voitures Audibert et Lavirotte in Lyon and increased production. In 1898 the name was changed to SA des Anciens Établissements Audibert et Lavirotte . Production ended in 1901 or 1902. A total of around 150 vehicles were built. Berliet took over the company and employed Emile Lavirotte. Maurice Audibert switched to Rochet-Schneider .

The first rear-engined model was similar to the German Benz . There were two-cylinder and four-cylinder engines are used. From 1900 the engines were installed in the bow, the power was transmitted by chain to the rear axle.

A vehicle of this brand can be seen in the Musée des 24 Heures in Le Mans , and another in the Musée Henri Malartre in Rochetaillée-sur-Saône near Lyon.
