Automobiles Barré was a French manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The engineer Gaston Barré worked as a designer from 1890. In 1899 he moved to Niort . In the same year he started producing automobiles. It was not until 1908 that he founded the G. Barré et Cie company and employed around 50 people. In 1923 the company was renamed Barré et Lamberthon , and in 1927 SA des Automobiles Barré . In 1930 production ended due to the economic crisis.

The first vehicle received an engine from Gaillardet . It was presented at the Paris Motor Show in December 1899 . In the following models, built-in motors from Aster , Buchet and De Dion-Bouton were initially used. Gearboxes, axles and, in some cases, chassis were also supplied. After the First World War engines were of Ballot with 2,000 cc displacement and SCAP used with 1614 cc capacity.

A vehicle of this brand can be seen in the Musée Automobile de Vendée in Talmont-Saint-Hilaire .
