Together they founded the company in Tours in November 1905 . In 1906 or 1907 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Rolland-Pilain .

The company financed the Tranin-Duverne mission , the first west-east crossing of Africa from the Atlantic to the Red Sea by motor vehicle carried out by Edmond Tranin and Gustave Duverne from 1924 to 1925 with a Rolland Pilain 10 CV .

Production ended in 1931.
