Clément & Cie was a French automobile manufacturer .
Company history
Adolphe Clément founded the company in Levallois-Perret in 1898 and began producing automobiles. The brand name was Clément . Production ended in 1903. In October 1903, the company was renamed SA des Établissements Clément-Bayard , and the vehicles were now offered as Clément-Bayard . Clément chose the name Bayard after Pierre du Terrail , Chevalier de Bayard, a knight of the Middle Ages in his region.
vehicles
The first vehicles were three-wheelers and four-wheelers. From around 1898 there were the models Clément-De Dion with a De Dion-Bouton engine in the rear and Clément-Panhard based on a design by the designer Krebs for Panhard & Levassor , which, however, did not go into production at Panhard & Levassor.
In 1901 the more modern 7 CV models with a single-cylinder engine and 12 CV with a two-cylinder engine followed , in which the engine was installed in the front of the vehicle, and in 1902 the 20 CV with a four-cylinder engine , which was also used as a racing car in the Paris-Vienna race.
In 1903 the range consisted of the 9 CV models and the two four-cylinder models 12 CV and 16 CV .
