The Fiat 1500 Spider was a two-door convertible manufactured between 1963 and 1966 by the Italian automobile brand Fiat .
Development history, features
The Fiat 1500 Spider replaced the predecessor Fiat 1200 Cabriolet (118G). Its Pininfarina body was given a new front, among other things. The largely unchanged chassis received disc brakes at the front . The most important change was the engine, which came from the 1961 Fiat 1500 sedan : a four-cylinder OHV in-line engine with 1481 cc and 67 hp. The top speed was around 155 km / h.
After technical changes in 1964 - including the servo brake - the engine of the Fiat 1500 C with 75 hp and the new five-speed gearbox (118 K) were installed in 1965, with a top speed of approx. 160 km / h.
The successor from 1966 was the Fiat 124 Spider , which only had the five-speed gearbox in common with its predecessor.
Sister models
The sister model Fiat 1600 S (OSCA) Cabriolet with the same Pininfarina body and the 1.6-liter double camshaft engine from OSCA has also been revised. In addition to the engine, it differed from the 1500 Cabriolet in terms of the "four-headlight front" and a significantly higher-quality interior. The engine and chassis corresponded to the previous model (1600 S, 1962–1963). In 1965, like the 1500 Cabriolet, the new five-speed transmission was installed in the 1600 S.
In addition to the Fiat Cabriolet, there was also a 1500 Coupe and 1600 S Coupe, which Pininfarina itself marketed under its own label.
