The 2800, built by Fiat from 1938 onwards , succeeded the Fiat 527 in the upper middle class . At first the model was only available as a sedan , from 1939 also as a torpedo . The drive was taken over by a V6 gasoline engine with a displacement of 2852 cm³. Its output of 85 hp / 63 kW was transmitted to the rear wheels via a four-speed gearbox with center shift. A top speed of 130 km / h could be achieved. The torpedo version was also available in a special 6-seater version as a presentation limousine. Only 6 of these were built and were the official vehicles of the then Italian King Viktor Emanuel III. After the war, they were used by the first democratically elected Italian presidents.
Fiat 2800 CMC
Fiat manufactured another special version based on the torpedo from 1939 for the Italian military as the 2800 CMC. This was a four-door command vehicle with a folding top. The wheelbase was shortened from 3200 mm to 3000 mm. The chassis had been reinforced and larger wheels were used. This increased consumption and the top speed dropped to 115 km / h. These models were used by the General Staff and in some cases also by police directors in the provinces.
In total, only 624 Fiat 2800s were built by 1944. 210 of them were 2800 CMC. Due to the war, production repeatedly came to a standstill or other series were more important. It was not until 1952, with the Fiat 1900 , that Fiat offered a vehicle in the upper middle class again.
