Zastava Automobili AD ( Serbian Застава аутомобили АД, Zastava automobili AD ) was a Yugoslav and then Serbian automobile manufacturer based in Kragujevac , the fourth largest city in the country. The name means "flag" in Serbian. Originally the name was Crvena Zastava , which means "red flag".
history
The successful era of the company's passenger car division began at the end of the 1950s with the license production of the Fiat 600 under the name Zastava 750. In the Yugoslav republics, these vehicles are nicknamed Fića ( 'fit̠͡ɕa ) or Fićo ( ' fit̠͡ɕo ), a diminutive form of Fiat , known.
Another Fiat license production followed with the Zastava Skala , a variant of the Fiat 128 with hatchback and large tailgate, which was supplemented by the notchback model in the 1980s . In 2005, an agreement was signed with Fiat to license and manufacture a modified Fiat Punto at the Zastava plant in Kragujevac. It was planned to produce around 15,000 Zastava 10s annually. Outwardly, the Zastava 10 does not differ from the last version of the Fiat Punto II. The starting price of the Zastava 10 is around € 8,000.
The Serbian government and the Italian automotive company Fiat signed a joint venture agreement on September 29, 2008, with which Fiat took over 67 percent of the Zastava plant in Kragujevac . The new company FCA Srbija manufactured the Zastava models Skala, Yugo and Florida until November 2008.
Yugo
Zastava's first in-house development was the Yugo on the platform of the Fiat 127. This was followed by the Yugo Florida , which was also available in Germany. In the course of the introduction of the Yugo Florida, the other Zastava models were also renamed Yugo, the previous model Yugo became the Yugo Koral, the 101/128 became the scale.
Automobile and commercial vehicle production
production
Originally the car capacity was over 200,000 annually. However, only a small part of the possible capacity is currently being used. Because of the sanctions imposed on Serbia, around 10 to 20,000 automobiles were produced annually between 1992 and 1997. These numbers have not changed significantly even with the introduction of new models such as Yugo Ciao, Yugo Cabrio and Yugo Florida. With the new Zastava 10 model (license from Fiat), in addition to truck production (license from IVECO) and the Yugo models that are still being produced, 40,000 units should be achieved. Zastava has so far produced more than 4,100,000 vehicles, of which 650,000 have been exported to 76 countries.
