Tvornica Automobila Sarajevo was a Yugoslav manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
UNIS was formed in 1967 from four armaments companies. One of them was Pretis , which manufactured motorcycles and automobiles under licenses from NSU-Motorenwerke . In 1972 UNIS and Volkswagen AG founded Tvornica Automobila Sarajevo for the production of automobiles. The company headquarters was in Vogošća near Sarajevo . The brand name of the vehicles was TAS . Production ended in 1992 due to the Bosnian War . A total of over 300,000 vehicles were produced. In 1998 Volkswagen founded the new company Volkswagen Sarajevo at the same location .

First the VW Beetle was built. He received the designations 1200 J and 1300 J . In 1976 VW Golf I and later VW Jetta I added to the range. There was a choice of four-cylinder engines with a displacement of 1100 cc and 1300 cc . The company later produced the VW Caddy , VW Golf II and VW Jetta II . The Golf and Jetta had the VW trademark and the TAS logo on the radiator grille.
