The company, founded in 1954, became known for the manufacture of mopeds , small motorcycles and outboard motors . A 750 class motorcycle was also built around 1970, the Tomos Norton TN 750 Fastback . The beginnings were based on constructions from Puch-Werke ( Austria ). One moped series was based on the Puch MS 50 . This was marketed as Colibri and was available as a moped or mokick version. Later mopeds were based on the Puch Maxi . Later Tomos built numerous in-house developments, including racing motorcycles for sport use .
From 1960 the Citroën 2CV was built for the Yugoslav market at Tomos , later also the models Citroën Ami 6 , Citroën Ami 8 and Citroën Dyane . In 1972 Citroën, Iskra and Tomos founded the new company Cimos to continue automotive production. Tomos has long been a major supplier to the motorcycle production of BMW .
The Citroën 2CV, called Ente in Germany , had the nickname Spaček (also Spale or Spaja ) in Yugoslavia , derived from Sitroen ( phonetic spelling for Citroën ) and Paček (diminutive of Patka = duck) or Paja Patak = Donald Duck .
