Walter Hempel (born August 12, 1887 in Leipzig ; † December 5, 1939 there ) was a German football player .

Career

Hempel played from 1908 to 1912 as a defender for FC Sportfreunde Leipzig in the first-class district of north-west Saxony. In the 1909/10 season, remaining in the class as the last in group B, however, was only ensured by the relegation game against FV Sachsen Leipzig, last in group A, won 3-0 .

Selection / national team

As a player in the selection team of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs , he took part in the competition for the Crown Prince's Cup. After victories in the quarter and semi-finals , he won the final of a German soccer cup competition, which was held in Berlin for the first time on April 18, 1909, against the selection team of the Berliner Ballspielvereine with 3-1.

During his club membership, he also played eleven international matches for the senior national team . He made his debut on April 5, 1908 in Basel with the first official appearance of a German national team, which lost 3: 5 to the Swiss national team .

He played his last international match on July 1 during the Olympic football tournament held in Stockholm from June 29 to July 4, 1912 . He was used in the consolation round of the highest victory of a German national team to date, the 16-0 victory against the national team of Russia .
