The Central German Football Championship 1908/09 of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV) was the eighth season of the Central German Football Championship . This year's championship was held again in regional Gauligen, the winners of which met in a knockout round . With a 5-4 win over Halleschen FC 1896 , SC Erfurt was able to win its first and only Central German championship title. With this victory, the Erfurt qualified for the German football championship 1908/09 and reached the semifinals after a 4-3 win after extra time against SC Alemannia Cottbus . There the Erfurt retired with a clear 1: 9 defeat against the eventual winner FC Phönix Karlsruhe .

mode

On the 17th association day of the VMBV on August 29th and 30th, 1908 it was announced that the association comprised 148 associations and 7858 members. Again, the clubs were divided into seven districts (Gaue) in the 1908/09 season, the winners of which played the Central German Football Championship. On September 13, 1908, the Gau Harz was founded in Aschersleben on the efforts of SC Thale , which, however, only became an official member of the VMBV on March 8, 1909.

The Association of Thuringian-Franconian Ball Game Clubs , founded on February 16, 1908 in Coburg, was not yet a member of the VMBV and played its own championship.

District I - Northwest Saxony

The district of Northwest Saxony was again divided into two groups this season, the winners of which played the Northwest Saxon soccer championship and thus also the participants in the Central German soccer championship. The last-placed of both groups played a play-off in which the loser had to compete against the winner of the second-rate district class in a relegation game. Some games were rated by the Mitteldeutscher Ballspiel-Verband with a defeat for both teams at 0-0 goals, so the data given for the goals scored and scored is somewhat misleading.

Department A

The games Leipziger BC against Olympia Leipzig and Olympia Leipzig against Leipziger BC were rated as a defeat for both clubs.
