successor Peugeot 305

The Peugeot 304 is a lower middle class passenger car from Peugeot . It was presented in the sedan version at the Paris Motor Show in October 1969 . The design of the body for this vehicle comes from Pininfarina in Turin ( Italy ).

The 304 had a transversely installed light metal engine, which, in contrast to the rust-prone body, was considered innovative and reliable. The motor press criticized the gearshift, which caused problems, especially when shifting down from third to second gear. From a technical point of view, it was a further development of the Peugeot 204 , the body was almost identical to it except for the more angular "face" of the front ("snapdragons") and the longer rear.

In March 1972 the Peugeot 304 S came onto the market, which - unlike its predecessor - had round instruments, reversing lights, new horizontal taillights, seat belts and headrests, but was otherwise almost identical.

Well over a million vehicles of this type had been built until production was discontinued in the fall of 1980.

The successor to the model was the Peugeot 305 , which was introduced in November 1977 .

variants

As with the 204, there were four body versions of the 304:

  • four-door notchback sedan (October 1969 to October 1979)
  • three-door station wagon (March 1970 to April 1975)
  • two-door convertible (March 1970 to July 1976)
  • five-door station wagon ("Break") and a three-door panel van ("Fourgonette"; September 1970 to October 1980)
