The Peugeot 305 is a vehicle between lower middle class and middle class from Peugeot . It was produced from autumn 1977 to the end of 1988 and replaced the Peugeot 304 .

history

The Peugeot 305 was introduced in November 1977 and initially only offered as a four-door notchback sedan .

In August 1980 the station wagon traditionally called Break followed . He had a Break Service van version with only two side doors and sheet metal side panels.

Rear view

The Peugeot 305 was offered with different engine variants during its construction period, all engines were four-cylinder. The first generation adopted the engine design familiar from the Peugeot 304 with a gearbox in the oil pan (1.3 liters and 1.5 liters displacement with 44 kW and 54 kW). The 60 hp engine had a Solex 34 PBISA 5 carburetor, the 75 hp variant had a Solex 35 PBISA 9. The aluminum engine block had wet, replaceable cylinder liners, an overhead camshaft and a light alloy cylinder head; the valves are driven by rocker arms. Diagnostic connector for ignition test and common engine and transmission oil filling of around 4 liters. Maintenance intervals for oil changes every 7500 km, for inspections every 15000 km. Later, the XU engines were available with the classic separation of engine and transmission (1.6 liters with 54 kW and 71 kW, 1.9 liters with 75 kW or 72 kW with catalytic converter).

The naturally aspirated diesel engine with 1.9 liter displacement and 48 kW also used in the Peugeot 205 , Citroën Visa and many other models of the PSA Group rounded off the lower end of the engine range. First a short-stroke 1.5-liter diesel engine was offered.

The engine was installed across the front axle, inclined at an angle of 20 °. The gearbox is located under the engine with a common oil circuit. In the Peugeot Museum , however, there is a prototype with the PRV engine in front of the front axle. The 305 was only available with front-wheel drive .

The front wheel suspension is formed by a MacPherson system with zero scrub radius and stabilizer . The rear wheels are individually suspended on swing arms, also with a stabilizer. The dual-circuit brake system has ATE discs at the front and Girling drum brakes at the rear, with a brake booster and brake force limiter on the rear axle. At the start of series production, there were very narrow 145 SR 14 tires on 4.5 J 14 rims. The spare wheel was attached outside below the trunk. After considerations of passive safety, the tank was located above the rear axle. According to Peugeot, the performance should have been in the range of 144 km / h for the 60 hp machine and 17.3 seconds for 0-100 km / h, and for the 75 hp four-cylinder engine at 153 km / h and 13.2 seconds for acceleration from 0-100 km / h.

Models

The 305 was offered as a sedan and a station wagon, the external dimensions of the bodies were almost identical for both models:

  • Length: 4240 mm (sedan), 4260 mm (Break)
  • Width: 1630 mm (sedan), 1640 mm (break)
  • Height: 1400 mm (sedan), 1420 mm (break)

Facelift

With the revision in autumn 1982, the body received a flatter, more aerodynamic front area. In addition, the series designation disappeared from the bonnet, which, like all other models, was now to be found at the rear.

successor

The 305 was Peugeot's most-produced vehicle for many years. In December 1988 the production of sedans and station wagons was stopped.

The successors were the 309 , which was presented in autumn 1985 and was located in the compact class, and the larger mid-range model Peugeot 405 introduced in autumn 1987 .

The 305 was still in use as a patrol car in Saarland until the end of the 1990s . This was due to the traditional connection between the Saarland and France after the Second World War (see Saar Protectorate ) and the fact that Peugeot Germany was based in the state capital Saarbrücken .
