The Peugeot 508 I is in the middle class positioned car of the French car manufacturer Peugeot . Since March 12, 2011 it has been available in Germany as a four-door notchback sedan and as a five-door station wagon named SW .
The official presentation took place earlier at the Paris Motor Show in October 2010. The production site for Europe is the French PSA plant in Rennes- La-Janais, where the Citroën C5 was also manufactured on the common PF3 platform . The correspondingly modified sedan models intended for the Chinese market will be manufactured in a new plant in Wuhan built especially for this model in the course of 2011 .
At the IAA 2011 in Frankfurt, a station wagon version equipped with all-wheel drive and a hybrid engine was presented. It came onto the market in spring 2012 as the 508 RXH. This drive was also available in the sedan from the summer of the same year.
The Peugeot 508 has received numerous international awards, for example Auto Zeitung Middle Class Import Winner 2011 (audience award), Car of the Year 2011 (Spain 2012) and Best Large Family car 2011 ( Next GreenCar ) for the best fuel consumption in its class (Peugeot 508 1.6 e- HDi 109 g CO 2 / km).
In the late summer of 2014, the series received a facelift, which, in addition to optical modifications, also brought technical innovations.
At the 88th Geneva Motor Show in March 2018, Peugeot presented the successor model with the 508 II .
background
The automotive sector of the upper middle class has been suffering from a significant decline in demand for several years, which also means that all manufacturers who do not see themselves as premium manufacturers are gradually withdrawing from this class. Instead, the equipment in the middle class is upgraded as an option and in some cases as standard. In the case of the Peugeot 508, a vehicle has been created that, with a length of 4.8 m, is within the range of today's standard dimensions for both classes.
The vehicle replaced both the Peugeot 407 (middle class) and the 607 (upper middle class). The model designation 508 continues the 500 series, which ended in early 1992 with the Peugeot 505 , which was then replaced by the independent model series Peugeot 405 and Peugeot 605 .
The new Peugeot design line introduced with the Peugeot SR-1 concept vehicle at the beginning of 2010 will go into series production for the first time with the 508. In the body shape, the design line referred to as the "open snapdragon" on the front of the smaller Peugeot models is dispensed with and replaced by a relatively conventional radiator grille that is very low in favor of low air resistance. A near-series, partly even more streamlined study was shown in March 2010 at the Geneva Motor Show as 5 by Peugeot , which already featured the planned hybrid drive. The c w value of the 508 is 0.257.
Production of the 508 in Rennes began in October 2010. The plant there can deliver up to 150,000 vehicles a year. In addition, Peugeot expects to be able to sell 60,000 copies per year in China, where the smaller Peugeot 408 is already available .
Facelift
In September 2014, the 508 underwent a facelift.
The front has been optically adapted to the design line known from the 308 , which includes a steeper front, a smaller grille, narrower headlights and modified daytime running lights. The rear of the sedan was only changed, while the SW station wagon remained unchanged.
At the same time, the new navigation system SMEG + (to replace the previously used RT6, switch to touch operation, omission of the menu wheel in the center console), a reversing camera, a blind spot assistant and the full LED headlights with static cornering lights were introduced. The new top-of-the-range engine for the Allure equipment is the 132 kW (180 hp) 2.0 BlueHDi 180 diesel engine. This is currently offered in the GT equipment line in parallel with the 2.2 HDi 200 diesel engine with 150 kW (204 hp).
technology
Furnishing
The 508 was offered in a total of four equipment lines - Access, Active, Allure and GT , the latter being only available with the 2.2-liter diesel engine. The basic equipment includes the usual class features such as daytime running lights , ESP , ASR , air conditioning including six airbags. This also includes an emergency brake assistant, which also automatically activates the hazard warning lights.
A large panoramic glass roof was available on request for the station wagon variant.
An emergency system was also available on request, which automatically sends an emergency call to the PSA service center or national emergency numbers when an airbag is triggered . This service can also be triggered manually via an emergency call button. A head-up display was also available.
In mid-2012, the color of the interior lighting (buttons, switches, automatic levers, air conditioning display, etc.) was changed from orange to white.
landing gear
The vehicle has a MacPherson wheel suspension at the front , while the GT version has the double wishbone version already used in the Peugeot 407 and Citroen C5 . The rear multi-link axle is used in all versions - in the RXH for the electric rear-wheel drive in a modified form.
Engines
As is now common practice at Peugeot, the engine range is almost exclusively based on diesel engines. Only two 1.6-liter engines with 88 kW (120 PS) or 115 kW (156 PS) with turbocharger are available as gasoline . The turbodiesel engines range from a 1.6 l with 82 kW (112 PS) to the 2.2 l HDi with 150 kW (204 PS). The diesel with 82 kW is optionally available as the e-HDi FAP 110 with a stop-start system , six- speed automatic transmission and micro-hybrid system, which results in CO 2 emissions of 109 g per km in the test cycle .
From 508 also one with was all-wheel -equipped diesel - hybrid version with 147 kW (200 hp) and 99 g CO 2 developed in the spring of 2012 as the 508 RXH appeared. Since the summer of 2012, the notchback sedan has also been offered as the HYbrid4 with a consumption of 3.6 l per 100 km.
In autumn 2014 the 508 RXH was also revised.
