PSA-XU engine
The PSA XU are a series of internal combustion engines used in Peugeot and Citroën automobiles. The engine is still used today (2017) in the Peugeot 405 manufactured in Iran and Egypt . In the course of the joint Eurovan project , the engine was also used by Fiat and Lancia.
The XU engines were introduced with the Peugeot 305 in 1981 . He was a SOHC - or DOHC - line engine with two to four valves per cylinder , with gasoline as fuel . It was tilted transversely by 30 ° and only installed in vehicles with front-wheel drive . The displacement was between 1580 and 1998 cm 3 (petrol), and all XU petrol engines had bores of 83 mm or 86 mm. The diesel versions are called XUD and range from 1769 to 2138 cm 3 with bores of 80, 83, 85 or 86 mm.
The XU series has been replaced by the more modern engines of the EW / DW series .
XU5
The XU5 has a displacement of 1.6 l (1580 cm 3 ) with a bore of 83 mm and a stroke of 73 mm. All XU5 had an overhead camshaft and two valves per cylinder. Depending on the model, either a single or double carburetor or manifold injection were used. The power ranged from 80 to 115 hp (59–85 kW). Only in Germany was the XU5 J1 (76 kW) offered with a pulse-air exhaust gas cleaning system and unleaded premium petrol (RON95) compatibility from 1986.
The production of the plastic covers for these engines has now been discontinued, so these are difficult to find.

XU7
The XU7 has a displacement of 1.8 l (1761 cm 3 ) with a bore of 83 mm and a stroke of 81.4 mm. The XU7 engines were only available with an injection system and catalytic converter, the XU7 JP4 with 16-valve injection. The power ranged from 90 to 110 hp (66 to 81 kW).

XU8
The XU8 has a displacement of 1.8 l (1775 cm 3 ) with a bore of 83 mm and a stroke of 82 mm. The 205 Turbo16 was equipped with it. The power ranged from 200 hp (147 kW) to 480 hp (353 kW). The XU8T is based on the modified cast iron engine block of the diesel variant, because this is the only way to ensure the necessary stability for the high stress caused by charging. The cylinder head of this engine has also been redesigned for this reason. For the Peugeot 405 Turbo 16 , based on the XU8 T Evo 2, the XU9 T Evo 4 was available. With a Garrett turbocharger, the Pikes Peak version achieved an output of 600 hp (448 kW).

The XU9 has a displacement of 1.9 l (1905 cm 3 ) with a bore of 83 mm and a stroke of 88 mm. There were versions with a carburetor and eight valves and those with two overhead camshafts, 16 valves and manifold injection . The power ranged from 102 to 160 hp (76–118 kW).

The XU10 has a displacement of 2.0 l (1998 cm 3 ) with a bore and a stroke of 86 mm. There were versions with one carburettor and eight valves as well as a 16-valve DOHC injection turbo version. The power ranged from 109 to 200 hp (80–147 kW).
