Renate Rolle

Renate Rolle (born April 19, 1941 in Leipzig ) is a German prehistorian .

Life

After completing her doctorate in Göttingen in 1968 and her habilitation in 1974 at the University of Göttingen , she taught as a lecturer in Göttingen from 1975, as a professor (C3) in Göttingen from 1978 and from 1991 as a professor in Hamburg .

Already with her dissertation on wooden tombs and rituals of the dead of the early Iron Age in southern Russia and the northwestern Caucasus, she went to the region of Eastern Europe. Even later, the Scythians there were a main topic of her research. So she carried out excavations in Certomlyk and Bel'sk. In addition, together with Petro Toločko, she developed a multilingual archaeological dictionary that promotes mutual understanding between colleagues from Eastern and Western Europe.
