The GT by Citroën is a concept vehicle that Citroën presented to the public at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. Originally it was initially a purely virtual development by the engineer Takumi Yamamoto for the PlayStation games Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6 .

idea

The GT by Citroën is the result of a partnership between Citroën and Polyphony Digital , a development studio for the Gran Turismo (GT) video game series . The GT was used for the first time in Gran Turismo 5 , thanks to the friendship between the engineer and designer Takumi Yamamoto, who works for Citroën, and the managing director of Polyphony and Vice President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Kazunori Yamauchi . They had the idea of designing a car exclusively for the PlayStation 3 game . Takumi then presented the result to Citroën's design director, Jean-Pierre Ploué . He was so enthusiastic that he encouraged Citroën to build the car in a small series.

Development, production

In contrast to other concept cars, whose development time is between 18 and 24 months, the GT by Citroën only required eight months between the start of the project and presentation at the Paris Motor Show. The first tests on the road took place shortly afterwards.

The concept was very well received at the exhibition, but Gilles Vidal, Head of Sales at Citroën, was pessimistic about building a small series, as the price would have to be at least one and a half million US dollars each.

In June 2009, Citroën finally decided to build an extremely limited number of just six copies, each costing $ 2.1 million. These were produced until July 2010.

Technology and equipment

A very low-slung sports car was created true to the scale of the game car, with an aerodynamically optimized body structure and air intakes. An electronically controlled spoiler stands out, as do the huge gull-wing doors . The front and rear lights were equipped with the latest technology of LED headlights . The 21-inch wheels also contributed to the muscular appearance.

The modular V8 petrol engine developed by Ford was purchased as an optimized version with 482 kW or 655 hp, which enables a top speed of 330 km / h to be achieved.

Motors of the game car

In the game, the GT has a hydrogen drive with a fuel cell , the four electric motors together achieve 582 kW / 791 PS and a top speed of 375 km / h. The "normal" street version with gasoline engines offers 380 kW / 517 PS, the racing version 459 kW / 624 PS and the "Concept version" 591 kW / 804 PS.
