Kazunori Yamauchi ( Japanese 山 内 一 典 ; born August 5, 1967 ) is the vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment and executive director of Polyphony Digital . He lives near Tokyo with his wife and child.

1993 began his career in the game industry. Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. (SCEI) was founded in the same year. The following year, he and four employees tackled the “Gran Turismo” project. Today he is managing director of Polyphony Digital, a SCEI subsidiary with around 110 employees.

Yamauchi is considered the creator of the Gran Turismo series and is responsible for the concept and design of “Gran Turismo 4”. Yamauchi is a car and racing enthusiast. His private fleet includes a Mercedes SL 55 AMG , a Nissan 350Z , a Porsche 911 GT3 , a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V , a Nissan R35 GT-R and a converted Honda S 2000 with gullwing doors. Yamauchi also owned a Nissan Skyline GT-R , which he wrecked after only an hour's sleep at night, and bought a Mitsubishi FTO to replace it .

At the 2011 Nürburgring 24-hour race , he won a class in the SP 8T class on a Nissan GT-R .

In October 2017, Yamauchi was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia .

His fortune is estimated at 22 million US dollars .
