The Citroën Saxo is a small car built by the French car manufacturer Citroën from spring 1996 to autumn 2003 . It was developed by PSA as the successor to the AX and shares many components and engines with the Peugeot 106 .
history
The Saxo was launched in June 1996. It was available as a hatchback sedan with three or five doors in various equipment lines, from the basic to the VTS . In addition to various gasoline engines from 33 kW to 87 kW (45 to 118 hp), a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 40 kW to 42 kW (54 to 57 hp) was also offered.
Facelift
In September 1999 the Saxo underwent a facelift . The front headlights and rear lights were revised and adapted to the current brand design.
As with many Citroën models, the replacement of the Saxo took place in two steps. First, the C3 came onto the market in spring 2002 as a replacement for the five-door Saxo. Nevertheless, almost two years after the appearance of the C3, the Saxo was retained as an affordable entry-level variant. In autumn 2003, the C2 followed on the shortened platform of the C3, which was only available as a three-door model and thus replaced the three-door Saxo.

Saxo électrique
As with the AX, the Saxo was also available as an electrically powered variant until 2003 .
This had a 11- kW - DC motor with separate excitation and recuperation that allowed a top speed of 91 km / h. Its range was about 120 km. The drive batteries with a voltage of 120 volts and a charge capacity of 100 Ah from Saft were distributed in the engine compartment and in the underbody, which meant that the interior was retained. The energy consumption is given as 18 kWh / 100 km. Due to the increase in weight - the curb weight is 1085 kg compared to the conventionally powered models - the Électrique was only approved for four people.
The Swiss company Texx AG built batteries of the latest lithium technology into a standard Saxo except for the batteries and charging logic and drove it in June 2009 from Göschenen (Switzerland) to Genoa on the Mediterranean Sea, i.e. over 300 km without a “refueling stop”. Thanks to the fully automatic charging logic developed in-house, the batteries can be fully recharged in around 150 minutes.
Both types - AX and Saxo électrique - were only built around 2800 times together and only exported to Germany in small numbers, among other things for the vehicle fleet of the Hamburger Elektrizitätswerke .
Saxo VTS 1.6l 16V Compresseur / Saxo bemani
In 2002, the Swiss company bemani motorenbau AG introduced the Citroën Saxo together with the Peugeot 106 with an output of 120 kW and a torque of 217 Nm. Using a compressor system developed by bemani , an acceleration value of 6.3 seconds from 0-100 km / h could be achieved.
