The Citroën C6 is a model of the French car brand Citroën . It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2005. Sales began in France in November 2005; in Germany, the model was offered from May 2006.

In December 2012, production ended without a successor. Like the Citroën C5 and Peugeot 508 I models, the C6 was manufactured in Rennes , Brittany . 23,384 vehicles were built.

A new generation of the C6 has been available exclusively on the Chinese market since October 2016.

history

With the C6, Citroën wanted to continue the tradition of the large sedans DS , CX and XM , which had been interrupted for a few years. There was therefore no direct predecessor; the production of the last large sedan, the Citroën XM, had already ended in autumn 2000.

The design of the C6 with the long wheelbase, the front overhang and an aerodynamic body line was based on its predecessors, including specific design references such as the concave rear window (CX) and the frameless side windows (DS).

While there had been a station wagon version of all three previous models (called "Break" by Citroën), a station wagon version of the C6 was never developed because the C6 was designed for the luxury class and the large station wagon segment was covered by the C8 .

safety

The Citroen C6 reached 2005 Euro NCAP - Crash test in the evaluation of occupant safety with 34 points, the maximum of five stars in occupant safety for children 38 points and four stars out of five, and with 28 points in the evaluation of pedestrian safety first Dare the maximum of four possible stars. This is mainly made possible by a bonnet which, in the event of a collision, is pyrotechnically raised by 6.5 cm in milliseconds, thus increasing the distance between the impacting body and the hard engine parts.

Motorization

The platform of the C6, which is also used for the Citroën C5 with its shorter wheelbase , was available with a total of four different engines: from 2005 to 2009 a 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine with 155 kW was available, and the one from 2005 to In 2009 a biturbo-charged 2.7-liter V6 diesel engine (HDi) with 150 kW was on hand. In the period from 2006 to 2010 came biturbo charged 2.2-liter inline four-cylinder - Diesel engine (HDi) added with 125 kW. These three engines correspond to emission class 4; both diesel engines have a particle filter (FAP). As transmission a Sechsstufen- was automatic available; a manual transmission was also available for the in-line four-cylinder diesel engine .

At the beginning of July 2009, the biturbo-charged 2.7-liter V6 diesel engine was replaced by a further developed 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine (HDi) (PSA DT-20C) with the same engine charging technology, which, like the predecessor from Ford, was in their Factory in Dagenham, England, and was also used in the Jaguar XF and Jaguar XJ . At a system pressure in the common rail of 2000 bar, it delivers 27 kW (37 hp) more, but has a fuel consumption of around 1 liter per 100 kilometers less than the 2.7-l diesel engine and corresponds to emission class 5.

Equipment features

The car comes with a range of common comfort and safety features as standard, such as front and side airbags (up to nine pieces), automatic driving lights switch-on, automatic cruise control, 2-zone air conditioning with separately controllable blowers and air outlets in the rear area as well as a driver's seat that can be programmed twice.

A particularly noteworthy feature is the hydropneumatic chassis ( Hydractive  3+), in which nitrogen- filled spring balls take over the vehicle suspension. A head-up display shows the speed of the vehicle and the instructions from the navigation system in the windshield in the driver's field of vision. The AFIL lane assistant warns the driver when driving over a lane marking without changing the blinker by shaking the driver's seat. A rear spoiler installed flush in the tailgate of the six-cylinder versions, which extends automatically in two stages at 65 km / h and 125 km / h, is intended to improve road holding at high speeds. The spoiler retracts at around 107 km / h.

The car magazine Top Gear (BBC) confirmed that the C6 had the best suspension comfort on a bumpy track. On heavily indented driving grooves, such as those found on country lanes, the body can be raised by the suspension system in two selectable levels to provide sufficient ground clearance. The models with a six-cylinder engine also have variable damping (AMVAR = AMortissement VARiable). A control unit registers the vertical movements of each individual wheel in real time. Each wheel spring cylinder is assigned an individual damper unit which, depending on the registered vertical movements of the respective wheel, receives the best possible damping setting from 16 different characteristic curves up to 400 times per second from the control unit.

The C6 has a concave rear window which, thanks to its inward curvature - and the resulting higher pressure of the airflow on the glass surface - frees itself from raindrops and dirt particles. The “Exclusive” equipment variant has noise- insulating laminated glass side panes that open a small gap shortly beforehand when the doors are opened. This means that only little force is needed when closing the doors later, because the air in the interior is not compressed when it slams, but can escape through this gap.

The car has an automatically steering headlight unit with xenon gas discharge lamps . The tire pressures are monitored using tire pressure sensors. The exterior mirrors fold in when the doors are locked and give a visual signal that the doors are securely locked.

The infotainment system can consist of a radio or a radio telephone navigation device RT3, RT4 or RT5; a JBL sound system with additional subwoofers in the rear shelf was optionally available. A 7 ″ color monitor in the middle of the dashboard is used to display navigation, telephone and multimedia data. The functions of the radio navigation devices can be operated using a voice recognition system. These devices also offer a hands-free function for their integrated telephone system with SIM card . The storage compartments embedded in the door panel are covered by a semicircular disc (optionally real wood).

State car

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy used a C6 as a state car .

New registrations

Between 2005 and 2012, 3,701 Citroën C6s were newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. 2007 was the most successful sales year with 1,751 units.
