Laminated glass

Laminated glass is the collective term for a laminate with at least two glass panes , each of which is covered by an adhesive intermediate layer made of plastic, e.g. B. are connected by a casting resin or a highly tear-resistant, tough-elastic, thermoplastic composite film . Laminated glass is not to be confused with laminated windows .

Applications

The main areas of application are front windows of all kinds of vehicles as well as fall -proof glazing or overhead glazing in the construction sector . The composite film used in most applications in the construction and automotive sectors consists of polyvinyl butyral (PVB). Other common interlayer materials are ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), polyacrylate (PA), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polyurethane (PUR) etc.

Depending on the number, type and thickness of the glass panes and intermediate layers used, laminated glass is used as safety glass , soundproof glass , fire protection glass, impact-, break-through or bullet-resistant glass, etc. Particularly resistant glazing results from the combination of glass panes with one or more panes of polycarbonate . Even intelligent glasses are often structured as a laminated glass.

Since 2006, according to the latest research results , foils equipped with LED and SMD electronics have also been laminated between glass using the above-mentioned PVB, EVA or TPU , which also enables products such as luminous glass stairs and tables as well as other laminated safety glass systems.
