The Citroën C35 is a van that was developed together with the Fiat 242 and built by FIAT in Italy from autumn 1973 to summer 1987 and by Chausson in France from summer 1987 to early 1991.
It should complement Citroën's commercial vehicle range alongside the Citroën HY and replace this model in the long term. All four wheels were individually suspended, at the front on double wishbones , at the rear on parallel swing arms, both axles with torsion bar springs, plus there was front-wheel drive and four disc brakes . Originally it was only supposed to be produced as the C32 with a total weight of 3.2 tons, but was then increased as the C35 to a total weight of 3.5 tons.
The cars with a wheelbase of 4200 mm were 4960 mm long, 1990 mm wide and 2370 mm high. The curb weight was 1665 kg.
When it was introduced in early 1974, there was a choice of a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a 2.2-liter diesel engine from the Citroën CX . It was available from the factory as a panel van , chassis for superstructures, small and minibuses, ambulances and mobile homes .
In the spring of 1980 the model was revised: a 2.5-liter diesel engine replaced the 2.2-liter diesel, the indicators were placed next to the headlights, reversing lights were available and side guard rails. At the end of 1984 the dashboard was renewed.
In the summer of 1987, production of the Fiat 242 ended and the assembly line was relocated to Chausson in France.
Production ended in early 1991 after 145,000 copies. The successor was the Citroën C25 with increased gross vehicle weight and increased payload .
