The Citroën ECO 2000 was the prototype of a low-energy vehicle from the French car manufacturer Citroën , which was developed between 1981 and 1984.

ECO 2000 was a 50% French government funded program with the aim of building a car that would be able to consume 2 liters. The aim was to research light and economical small cars for the next millennium. A number of true-to-scale models were made and tested in the wind tunnel. A c w value of 0.22 was calculated for the vehicle . 3 prototypes (SA 103, SA 109 and SA 117) were constructed, which resulted in the construction of the SL 10, the definitive version.

The SL 10 had a hydropneumatic suspension with an electrically controlled, speed-dependent ride height. It weighed 450 kg and was powered by a 3-cylinder engine with a displacement of 0.75 l, which developed an output of 26 kW / 35 hp at 4750 rpm.

The top speed was 140 km / h. The total consumption was 3.5 l, which is higher than the target consumption, but a consumption of 2.1 l was achieved at a constant speed of 90 km / h.

The knowledge gathered during the project, especially with regard to the realization of a low vehicle weight with the largest possible interior space and at the same time careful attention to aerodynamics, were used, among other things, in the development of the design for the upcoming Citroën AX .
