The PSA-DV engine is a turbocharged four - stroke diesel engine with four cylinders in line , which was developed jointly by PSA and Ford as part of the GEMINI cooperation project decided in 1998 .

Ford produces this engine series under the name DLD engine , the sales names are HDi (PSA) and Duratec TDCi (Ford). They are installed in various car models from Citroën , Peugeot , Ford, Mazda , Mini , Suzuki , Toyota and Volvo .

The DV engine is available with a displacement of 1398 cm³ (DV4) or 1560 cm³ (DV6) and in various power levels between 40 kW (54 PS) and 82 kW (112 PS).

It is equipped with common rail injection and an exhaust gas turbocharger , the DV6 engine is also equipped with charge air cooling and adjustable guide vanes on the exhaust gas turbine. With a 73.7 mm bore and 82.0 mm stroke, the DV4 has a stroke ratio of 1.11. The DV6 has a 75.0 mm bore, 88.6 mm stroke and a corresponding stroke ratio of 1.18.

Depending on the engine output and production date, both displacement variants are designed with two-valve cylinder heads and an overhead camshaft or with four valves per cylinder and two overhead camshafts. In all variants, the camshafts are driven by toothed belts . The crankcase (engine block) and cylinder head are made of cast aluminum. The engines weigh between 113 kg and 123 kg (with oil and clutch, without attachments).

So far (as of 2010) more than 16.5 million units of the GEMINI series have been produced, the final assembly of the DV motors takes place in the Française de Mécanique factories in Douvrin (DV4) and Usine PSA in Trémery (DV6).
