Jurij Protassow ( Ukrainian Юрій Протасов ; born April 23, 1984 in the former Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic , USSR ) is a rally driver from Ukraine .

Career

Yuri Protasov began his motorsport career in the national kart championship in 1994, motivated by his father Leonid Protasov. He won these in various classes until 2000. As the co-driver of father Leonid, Yuri Protasov drove his first rallies in 1999 in the national championship. Even behind the wheel he won the Ukrainian rally championship in 2008. In 2011 Protasov contested the Production World Rally Championship (PWRC) with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X from the Darnitsa Motorsport Team. He finished second in the Rally Sweden , but was not registered as a driver entitled to points for the world championship.

Protasov has been taking part in the World Rally Championship regularly since 2011, but cannot always contest all races for financial reasons. In 2013 he finished third in WRC2 with 83 points. In 2014 he won the WRC2 World Rally Championship races in Monte Carlo and Mexico . In these two races he was classified in tenth place in the overall standings and thus scored his first two World Rally Championship points in the top WRC rally class .

Protasov started the year 2015 with a Citroën DS3 WRC from D-Max Racing. In the Monte Carlo Rally , he finished 16th place. At the Rally Sweden he drove a Ford Fiesta RS WRC as a privateer. With the ninth place Protasow drove two world championship points. At the Rally Mexico and the Rally Argentina he started in the WRC2 class with a Ford Fiesta RRC. He successfully completed the rallies with fourth and fifth place.
