Reports

Day 1 (Thursday, March 5th)

On Thursday evening, two short special stages with a total length of 6.5 kilometers were on the program near the city of Leon. The top 10 were within 5.3 seconds after the first two special stages. The first short course, just over a kilometer long, consisted of cobblestones, high curbs and a narrow tunnel. It was started in the reverse order of the current World Championship ranking. Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) was the last to leave. Private driver Lorenzo Bertelli (Ford) surprised with second place. Only Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) was two tenths of a second faster in the end. The drivers mastered the street course in the dark without any problems. Only Robert Kubica (Ford) damaged the left rear rim on a curb. In the second special stage, world champion Ogier was ahead of the competition with 1.2 seconds. After the first day, Ogier led the overall standings ahead of Neuville.

Day 2 (Friday, March 6th)

At the first World Championship run on gravel roads in the 2015 World Rally Championship , many drivers struggled with difficulties. Ott Tänak's (Ford) accident caused a sensation in the first special stage of the day. The Estonian got off the road in the third special stage of the rally, rolled down a slope and rolled into a lake. Tänak and his co-driver Raigo Mölder were able to get out of the car in time before the Ford Fiesta disappeared completely into the water. For a long time, the first pursuer of Sébastien Ogiers was Thierry Neuville . But when the “El Chocolat” special stage was completed for the second time in the afternoon, the Hyundai driver retired. After a puncture, Neuville overturned shortly before the finish line, severely damaging the car's radiator. Second place went to Jari-Matti Latvala , who unobtrusively ended the day. His gap to team-mate Ogier was 13.5 seconds. The only remaining Volkswagen opponent in the top field was Mads Østberg in third. In the morning, the Citroën driver was plagued by a transmission problem, just like at the Rally Sweden . Then Østberg got better and better and shook off Andreas Mikkelsen in the third Polo, but he was 29.5 seconds behind Ogier. The lead over Mikkelsen, however, had grown to 15.7 seconds.

3rd day (Saturday, March 7th)

Sébastien Ogier was well on the way to his third win of the season. Chaser Jari-Matti Latvala damaged the left rear suspension in the 12th special stage, at 43 kilometers the longest of the day. When trying to continue, Latvala lost the rear wheel and fell out completely. After Latvala's failure, Mads Østberg and Andreas Mikkelsen fought for second place . At the end of the day, Østberg had a small lead of 4.5 seconds. The other drivers were already several minutes behind. M-Sport driver Elfyn Evans held fourth place after a problem-free day. Dani Sordo was fifth as the best Hyundai driver. He complained of transmission problems and a punctured tire. Several of those who failed on Friday started again on Saturday according to the rally 2 regulations . Thierry Neuville , Robert Kubica and Kris Meeke were among them . On Neuville's i20, the gearbox was changed in the lunch service, after which it ran better and he drove faster times. Kubica struggled with the tires. He came back to the service park with two broken tires in the trunk and a creeping flat tire. Ott Tänak tried to start again with his Ford Fiesta RS WRC , which was sunk in the lake yesterday . The mechanics dried and cleaned the car, but there were problems starting the engine. Tanak couldn't leave the service park in the morning. He will try again on Sunday. Ogier led the rally with over 1:12 minutes on Østberg, before the last four special stages on Sunday.

4th day (Sunday, March 8th)

Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in Mexico 2015

Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) is well on the way to his third world championship title in the 2015 World Rally Championship . In the Rally Mexico, after the Rally Monte Carlo and the Rally Sweden , Ogier clinched his third victory in a row. He is unbeaten in 2015. In Mexico he also secured the three bonus points in the power stage (SS21). Ogier is now 34 points ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen in the drivers' world championship table. After three rallies, he is only three points short of the maximum possible number of points in the current season. At the finish line, Ogier had a lead of 1: 18.8 minutes over Citroën works driver Mads Østberg after 21 special stages . Østberg had the upper hand in the duel with Mikkelsen (Volkswagen). At the finish they were only separated by 6.3 seconds.

"I have to forget the World Cup and concentrate from rally to rally."

WRC2

Nasser Al-Attiyah ( Ford Fiesta RRC ) started his WRC2 title defense with a victory at the Mexico Rally . His impressive lead over the competition was just under eight minutes. The first leader, Yuriy Protasov, gambled away the victory with a driving error on Saturday afternoon in which he damaged the radiator of the Ford Fiesta RRC. Protasov was classified in fifth place behind Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari (Ford Fiesta RRC). Nicolas Fuchs (Ford Fiesta R5) finished second despite having had an accident on Sunday. Fuchs kept Jari Ketomaa (Ford Fiesta R5) at a distance of 21.2 seconds. Third place was enough for Ketomaa to take the championship lead by 15 points over Al-Attiyah.
