Ott Tänak (born October 15, 1987 in Kärla on Saaremaa ) is an Estonian rally driver . In his tenth participation in a world championship run, the Rally Mexico 2011 , he scored a world championship point for the first time . Tänak achieved his first podium finish in third at the 2012 Rally Italy , and five years later (2017) in the same rally his first victory. He was named Estonia's Sportsman of the Year in 2017 . Career
In 2008 and 2009, Tänak won the Estonian rally championship title in the team of former rally driver Markko Märtin . The then 21-year-old Tänak took part in his first rally world championship run at the Rally Portugal 2009 . In September of the same year he won a rally belonging to the Pirelli Star Driver series in Austria. He was voted "Pirelli Stardriver 2009". This enabled him to take part in six rounds of the World Rally Championship in the P-WRC class free of charge in 2010 .
In 2010 he started at the Rally Sweden and took part in the six above-mentioned events. There he won the Rally Finland and Rally Wales in the PWRC class .
In 2011, Tänak drove for Markko Märtin's team for the fourth year. Starting his first year in the SWRC class , he achieved his first World Championship point with tenth place overall at the Rally Mexico . In Sardinia, he achieved his best result to date, finishing seventh overall. At the 2011 Rally France , Tänak started his first World Championship rally on asphalt. He clinched an impressive class victory there and came eleventh in the heavily occupied field. In Great Britain he started in a World Rally Car for the first time and came in sixth overall.
In the 2017 season , Tänak achieved his first victory in a world championship run, and celebrated further WRC victories in the following years. In 2017 and 2018 he was third in the world championship. In his second year at Toyota WRT, he won the 2019 World Championship with a total of six wins.
